Plot/Synopsis: An Inaccurate Memoir is set in another mysterious ';Wild East'; town – this time during the last Sino-Japanese War. Rich-kid gang leader Fang Youwang (played by China’s new Prince Charming, Huang Xiaoming) kidnaps Gao Dongliang, a wealthy groom-to-be. Surprise: Fang';s mistress falls for Gao, while Fang himself gradually evolves into a patriotic hero intent on fighting off the invading Japanese.
Bloodshed, gunfights and a mixture of both humour and eeriness that brings to mind the likes of surrealists Akira Kurosawa and Takeshi Kitano, should stand An Inaccurate Memoir in good stead. A screenplay by Zhang Xiaobei, one of China’s most reputable film critics, doesn’t hurt either.
